3 Important Safety Features To Include On Your Garage

When you have a young family, safety in all areas of your home is really important because children can get hurt easily. Here are 3 important safety features that you need foir your garage so that your family is safe.

Sensors

First, consider adding sensors to your garage so that your children do not accidentally get hit by the garage door when it is closing. The sensors look like little cameras, and they go right at the bottom of the garage track just a few inches above the ground.

These sensors can be installed when you get a new motor or separately, and you can purchase them at a local home and hardware store.

One of the best things about the sensors is that they work when you are closing the garage and not when you are opening it. The sensors will not cause the garage door to stop as it is opening if something obstructs the view of the sensors, but the garage door will retract if something is in the way when the door is closing.

Keypad

Second, consider adding a keypad to your garage door so that your children do not have to carry remotes home from school. Someone could steal the remotes, and then there is a greater chance of a break-in or burglary.

Instead, add a keypad to your garage that is low enough for your children to reach. Create a code that is easy for them to remember, but do not make a code that only consists of one or two numbers since these codes are easier to figure out.

Instead, try to make a code that has 4 different numbers, and then make sure that your children do not share the code with anyone else.

Garage Lock

Lastly, make sure that there is a garage lock on your garage door so that you can always get in. If for some reason the power goes out, you will not be able to open your garage with an opener.

Your garage will also not be as secure unless you have a lock on the front of it. Keep a key somewhere safe, and use the key to unlock and open the garage door so that you can still get out of your house. This is also helpful if your motor goes out and you cannot open the garage electronically.

In addition, this adds another measure of safety to your home because intruders cannot get in, and your children will always have a way to get into the house even if the power is out.

By doing these 3 things, you can make your home safer and more secure so that you and your children have a comfortable place to live. For more information, talk to a professional like Terry Overhead Door.
